FY 2001

The District was allocated funding through the Best Management Practice (BMP) program.  These on the ground practices include alternative watering systems for livestock, exclusive fencing, fencing for rotational grazing and waterways for agricultural producers.  This funding provides 75% of the cost of the agricultural BMPs.  The producer may also take a tax deduction (25% of the owner’s 25% share) for practices installed.

DAN RIVER WATERSHED SELECTED FOR FUNDING UNDER THE

ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY INCENTIVES PROGRAM (EQIP)

The Dan River Watershed was selected for funding in part because the Dan River has been identified on the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s Priority List of Impaired Waters.  Resource concerns that will be addressed include improvement of water quality, limiting livestock direct access to streams, encourage populations of endangered species by reducing sedimentation, reduce streambank erosion caused by livestock and reduce runoff from crop fields.
